Making Orientations Online

This is an article the Chronicle of Higher Education wrote on Orientations for Adjunct Faculty. National Louis University was highlighted due to their implementation of an online orientation for their adjuncts. Linda Kryzak and I created and implement the training for the school. Online orientations make information accessible to all faculty. After the training, faculty are invited into an online cafe to discuss questions, share stories, or be updated on changes at the University.

Stop Bullying Goes High Tech

Okay school social workers, here is an app for you. Stop Bullies and Bully Block are two apps designed to anonymously report bullying through texting, videos, or sending photos, directly to administrators. This is if administrators are serious about stopping bullying in their schools. There is even a GPS tag to identify where the fight is occurring on the video feed! Kids today are having access to smart phones at younger and younger ages. Technology is a snap to adapt if it is of interest to the child or teen. More schools are allowing phone usage between classes or in study halls. If your school is having a bullying issue you can advocate for phone usage and this app to be downloaded by students. These apps are first steps at linking technology with a social problem. There may be some bugs to work out with students, administrators, and parents.   We are in unprecedented times for protesting. April 5 th has the potential to be the largest protest in America. In my 40-plus years of attending protests, well over 50 at this point (I’ve honestly lost count), I have never experienced violence at a protest. These gatherings were passionate, sometimes tense, but ultimately peaceful. We are in different times now, and different times call for different measures. The climate has shifted.
